Following example shows you how to use the packaged tests in the intranet environment (within the organization) Suppose you have a computer lab with 50 computers connected to a network server. Your server name is test-server (IP address: 192.168.3.10). You have already created your packaged test called "myPackage" using Exam Pro software. And you have installed "myPackage" on this server in "c:\Program Files\mytest" folder. So your executable file name is "c:\Program Files\mytest\myPackage.exe" Share "c:\Program Files\mytest" folder (right click the folder and select "Sharing..." menu, and select "Share this folder". Goto "Security" tab and allow the users to read and write this folder. Now all the 50 computers connected to the server can access your packaged tests. Just create a shortcut on the client computer's desktop pointing to: \\192.168.3.10\mytest\myPackage.exe or Double click on "My Computer" icon on the client computer's desktop and enter the following in the address location: \\192.168.3.10\mytest\myPackage.exe All the Student's Answer Sheet (.sas) files will be created on the server as \\192.168.3.10\mytest\student-id-time-stamp.sas for each student. This way you get the centralized administration of the examination. Later you can import all the Student's Answer Sheet (.sas) files into Exam Records (.rec) file and export the data in different formats which you can use to import into other applications like Microsoft Excel or other databases for further analysis. You create individual login for every student enrolled into your organization. You also have individual login with admin privileges for teachers. For the sake of example say you have 2000 students enrolled and you have 20 teachers. For the above setup you need one Exam Pro (cost $2495) and 20 Exam (cost $145 each) Following will explain how this whole stuff works. Since our software is not web browser based you have to do few things to achieve the required goal. You install Exam Pro software on one computer and install Exam software on 20 computers where teachers develop their question banks (i.e. .exm files). 1. All 20 teachers develop their question banks (i.e. .exm files) from their individual PC/laptop. 2. Once teachers have created their exam (.exm) files they copy those .exm files to a network drive if they have those .exm files on their local hard drive. If they have all those .exm files already on the network drive then no need to copy files. 3. Now using Exam Pro software from the computer where Exam Pro software is installed teachers create packaged tests. Teachers log in to the web portal and upload the packaged tests into the respective folder. 4. Through web portal teachers send email to the required number of students and instruct them to log in to the portal and download the packaged tests from the respective folder. Also instruct students to upload their Student's Answer Sheet (.sas files) to another read only folder. This way teacher receives all the .sas files from all the students into one folder in the web portal and they can generate the reports on those .sas files for further analysis. 5. Students log in to the portal, download the test on their computer, take the test and finally upload their Student's Answer Sheet (.sas files) to the portal. Then create your packages which you can install on unlimited number of computers. If you want to be able to create question banks from multiple computers, then you just need to purchase additional licenses of Exam ($145 each) for the required number of computers. You need to purchase multiple licenses of Exam Pro software ONLY if you want to install Exam Pro software on multiple computers. For example, suppose your school district or organization has total 100 computers, out of which 10 computers are being used by teachers/instructors for creating question banks. Now you will need one license of Exam Pro ($2495) and ten licenses of Exam ($145 each) Once teachers/instructors have created their question banks i.e. exam (.exm) files using Exam software, then upgrade those exam (.exm) files to Exam Pro format using "Upgrade" tool of Exam Pro software. Then create your package using Exam Pro software. You can install this newly created package on your 100 computers (or unlimited number of computers) or you can put your package on the network server and unlimited number of computers connected to the network server can take the test simultaneously. In the above example if you want to have the ability to create the packages from multiple computers within your school district or organization, then only you need to purchase multiple licenses of Exam Pro software. Exam software does not need any back-end database. Exam software writes the encrypted data into a file with extension .exm. When student takes the test, Exam software writes the data into a file with extension .sas. Everything is file based. To backup your data, you just need to backup these files. Please note that once removed you will not be able to use the license key again on this computer unless you reinstall the operating system.
